Obituaries

Labourer, Truck Driver, (Horticulture), Sincerest condolences go out to all the members of this family.

The position would give opportunity to those with the experience and service.

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of this full time position.

Several siblings whose years of service and experience are passed over once again survive it.

A celebration of the position will be held at the old service center followed by a short service in front of the water truck.

Important Peoplemover News

This quote was released by Bill Rudd, President, OPSEU Local 217, on June 25, 2010:

"While meeting with John Kernahan today, he indicated that the new Peoplemover system will not negatively affect Niagara Parks employees or business."

This is certainly good news for all employees of the Niagara Parks Commission.

Considering this information, there is now no need for members of the local to attend the City Council meeting on June 28th.  Also, the meeting in which the Peoplemover plan will be discussed, will be convened "in camera" and the date is unknown. ( In camera is a legal term meaning "in private". )

When details of the City's plan are made available, they will posted here.

Unions are not insurance policies where you pay your dues and expect someone to solve your problems for you. Unions are self-help organizations where the members work together in order to solve common problems.

The Bundle of Sticks

An old man on the point of death summoned his sons around him to give them some parting advice. He ordered his servants to bring in a bundle of sticks, and said to his eldest son: “Break it.” The son strained and strained, but with all his efforts was unable to break the bundle. The other sons also tried, but none of them was successful. “Untie the sticks,” said the father, “and each of you take a stick.” When they had done so, he called out to them: “Now, break,” and each stick was easily broken. “You see my meaning,” said their father.

Union gives strength.
